READING ABOUT ANCIENT ROME AND ROME IN THE TIME OF THE CAESARS, WILL OPEN UP YOUR EYES AND INFORM YOU AND MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND WHY AMERICA IS WHERE WE ARE TODAY.  THE AVAILABILITY OF THE INTERNET AND YOUR LOCAL LIBRARIES SHOULD NOT GO TO WASTE.  MORE INTERESTING THINGS TO DO AND SEE, YOU SAY? WHY DO YOU TRAVEL ALL OVER THE WORLD TO SEE AND DO THINGS IF YOU DO NOT TAKE THE TIME TO STUDY THEM BEFORE YOU GO THERE?  SURELY, ONE'S MIND CANNOT ABSORB ALL OF THE INFORMATION IN JUST A FEW SHORT MINUTES OF BEING THERE.

FOR INSTANCE, IN THE AMERICAS, MY FAVORITE PLACE TO GO TO IS BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.  I WAS TOTALLY LOST THE FIRST TIME I WENT THERE AND WAS FORCED TO STUDY THE PLACE AFTER I GOT HOME.  THE ONLY KNOWLEDGE I HAD WAS THE NOVEL I HAD READ SOME YEARS AGO ENTITLED "FOR THOSE WHO LOVE," THE STORY OF JOHN ADAMS AND HIS WIFE ABIGAIL.  THE STORY MENTIONS JOHN ADAMS' BIRTHPLACE  "BRAINTREE."  WHILE IN BOSTON, I WONDERED WHERE BRAINTREE WAS LOCATED.  HOWEVER, I LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE NAME HAD BEEN CHANGED TO "QUINCY," AND WE KNOW WHY.

SO MUCH FOR THAT.  I KNOW WE CANNOT KNOW EVERYTHING BUT THEN I DIDN'T MAKE AN EFFORT TO STUDY BOSTON'S HISTORY PLUS, OTHER THAN HAVING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PAUL REVERE AND "THE BRITISH ARE COMING, THE BRITISH ARE COMING." BUT, WHILE THERE,  I DID WALK UP TO BUNKER HILL AND WENT TO CONCORD, LEXINGTON, LISTENED TO A LECTURE ON "OLD IRONSIDES" AND THE WAR OF 1812, WENT TO THE MARKET PLACE AND FANEUIL HALL, OLD SOUTH CHURCH WHERE THE SONS OF LIBERTY WERE BEFORE THEY DUMPED  THE TEA OFF  BOSTON HARBOR.  AFTER THAT, WE WALKED "FREEDOM TRAIL" NORTH, PASSING THROUGH THE ITALIAN NEIGHBORHOOD ON THE WAY TO AN OLD CEMETERY THAT HAPPENED TO BE CLOSED AT THE TIME.  IT WAS FUN TALKING TO THE ITALIAN WOMEN ON THE WAY THERE AS WE BOUGHT WONDERFUL PASTRIES FROM THEM. IT GAVE ME A CHANCE TO PRACTICE MY ITALIAN.  I BELIEVE I SAW BENJAMIN FRANKLINS' PARENTS' GRAVE SOMEWHERE IN TOWN AT OR NEAR "THE COMMONS?" ANYWAY, DO NOT MISS THIS INTERESTING TOWN. IF I LIVED THERE, I WOULD BUY AN APARTMENT ON BEACON STREET. I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT THE PLACE APPEALED TO ME BECAUSE OF ITS OLDNESS, INCLUDING THE OLD GLASS WINDOWS WITH THEIR MULTI-COLORS BEAMING AGAINST THE SUN TELLING ME THEY WERE WORTH MORE BECAUSE OF THEIR AGE.

BY THE WAY, FREEDOM TRAIL STARTS AT FANEUIL HALL WHERE SAMUEL ADAMS SPOKE MANY TIMES AND WHERE OTHERS CRIED OUT FOR INDEPENDENCE AGAINST THE BRITISH.  THE PLACE HAS BEEN THERE SINCE 1742 AND IS CLOSE TO THE MARKETPLACE.
