THE YORBA-SLAUGHTER HOUSE IS NOT A SLAUGHTER HOUSE IN CHINO.  IT ONCE WAS RANCHO EL RINCON, THE HOME OF BERNARDO YORBA .  LATER,  A MS. ALVARADO,  MARRIED A MR. SLAUGHTER WHO CAME TO CALIFORNIA FROM MISSOURI AND THEY MADE THEIR HOME THERE.  IT IS NOW A MUSEUM.  BEFORE THAT, SEVERAL PEOPLE OCCUPIED THE PLACE.  THE BASQUE EVEN USED THE PLACE FOR A DAIRY. THE BASQUE, PORTUGUESE, DUTCH AND MEXICANS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PART OF THIS COMMUNITY.  IN FACT, CHINO HAS A LOT OF CALIFORNIO DESCENDANTS. THE ITALIANS MAINLY SETTLED IN GUASTI, FONTANA, ETIWANDA, ONTARIO AND RANCHO CUCAMONGA.  HOWEVER, A LOT MORE ITALIANS WERE FARMERS IN THE CALIFORNIA CENTRAL VALLEY AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AS A.P. GIANNINI, THE FOUNDER OF BANK OF AMERICA, HAD A LOT TO DO WITH THE FINANCING OF FARMLANDS.  I KNEW CLAIRE GIANNINI HOFFMAN, A. P.'S DAUGHTER, WHO STILL LIVED IN SAN MATEO IN THE 1960'S.

I LOVE THIS RANCHO AND FEEL RIGHT AT HOME WHEN I GO THERE.  SEVERAL YEARS AGO MY THOUGHTS WERE TO BECOME A DOCENT THERE.  I STILL MAY, AFTER I FINISH MY HISTORICAL BOOK.  THE YORBAS AND LUGOS ARE FRIENDS OF MINE AS ARE MANY CALIFORNIOS.

THE YORBA-SLAUGHTER MUSEUM IS ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE PRADO REGIONAL PARK WHERE I DID A HISTORICAL PLAY BACK IN 1982. AT THAT TIME, RUBEN AYALA, THE SENATOR IN SACRAMENTO, CAME DOWN WITH OTHER POLITICIANS TO PARTICIPATE AS PART OF THE PARK'S DEDICATION. NEAR THERE, IS ALSO A LITTLE CREEK IN FRONT OF THE PRADO CLUB GOLF COURSE WHERE MY FATHER USED TO SEND ME TO GATHER WATERCRESS FOR OUR DINNER SALAD.  THE CREEK WAS WIDER AND HAD A LOT MORE WATER THEN UNTIL DEVELOPMENT TOOK OVER THE COUNTRYSIDE.
