I AM ABOVE ON THE AFTERNOON OF THE CHAFFEY COLLEGE HOMECOMING GAME.  HERE YOU SEE ME WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS OF CAROL DUCK'S HOME.  THE SCHOOL IS JUST ACROSS THE STREET WHERE I WILL RIDE IN THE RED 1957 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE AROUND THE FOOTBALL FIELD AND WAVE TO ALL OF THE STUDENTS, FACULTY AND VISITORS.

OMG, THIS PICTURE IS DATED JANUARY, 1958.  THIS IS CAROL DUCK AND FRIEND JIM.  THEY HAD JUST DONE A SUPERB JOB IN SUPPORTING ME AS A CANDIDATE FOR HOMECOMING QUEEN IN THE FALL OF 1957 AT CHAFFEY COLLEGE IN ONTARIO, CA.  CAROL WAS ALSO ONE OF MY BRIDESMAIDS IN NOVEMBER 1958.

CAROL'S DAD WAS AN INSURANCE UNDERWRITER AND KNEW EVERYONE IN TOWN.  HE MANAGED TO BORROW A BRAND NEW 1957 BRIGHT RED CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE FOR ME TO RIDE IN DURING THE HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME.  I WAS SO  HAPPY TO BE RIDING IN THIS GEM OF A CAR THAT I HAVE FORGOTTEN WHO DROVE IT.  IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN TOM DUCK, CAROL'S DAD. CAROL'S MOM AND DAD WERE ALWAYS SO GRACIOUS.  THEY HAD A BEAUTIFUL TWO-STORY SPANISH HOME ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE COLLEGE ON EUCLID AVENUE.

IT WAS ON EUCLID AVENUE THAT OUR HOMECOMING FLOATS WERE TO BE DRIVEN SOUTH  THROUGH THE CITY AND THEN RETURNING NORTH WITH US CANDIDATES WAVING AT THE PEOPLE.  BUT,  IT WAS NOT TO BE AS THE FIERCE WINDS DESTROYED OUR FLOATS AND THE PARADE WAS CANCELLED.  I SUPPOSE THEY WERE THE SANTA ANA WINDS AS THEY TEND TO GET HEAVY IN THAT AREA, INCLUDING CHINO, UPLAND, RANCHO CUCAMONGA AND FONTANA.  ONE WOULD THINK I WOULD GET USED TO THOSE CONDITIONS AS AT ONE TIME OUR FAMILY LIVED ON A RANCH AT THE END OF CHINO AVENUE AND ARCHIBALD.  THAT'S WHEN I ATTENDED MOUNTAIN VIEW GRAMMAR SCHOOL THAT WAS SURROUNDED BY BEAUTIFUL VINYARDS.  IT WAS SO WINDY AT OUR RANCH THAT THE SAND WOULD PILE UP HIGH AGAINST OUR GARAGE UP TO ITS ROOF.  THEN, CAME THE FLOODS.  THAT'S WHEN WE HAD TO FLEE TO GRANDMA'S HOME IN RIVERSIDE.
