WHEN MY PARENTS, SIBLINGS AND I WERE LIVING IN BEAR CREEK, CA, THIS WAS IT.  HOWEVER, I TOOK THIS PICTURE MANY YEARS AFTER LEAVING THE FARM.  WHEN WE LIVED THERE, WE ONLY HAD FOUR CABINS, AN OUTHOUSE AND A DIRT DRIVEWAY.  ALL OF THESE NICE BUILDINGS WERE NOT THERE.  NEVERTHELESS, IT WAS NICE TO SEE THE OLD PLACE ONCE MORE WHICH BROUGHT BACK MANY HAPPY MEMORIES.

STRAIGHT AHEAD IN THIS PICTURE IS THE CREEK WHICH RUNS FROM THE YOSEMITE AREA TO THE WEST.  THIS PROPERTY IS ON THE CORNER OF KIBBY AND BEAR CREEK.  KIBBY RUNS PARALLEL WITH THE CAR GARAGE. WE HAD A ROW OF ALMOND TREES ALONG KIBBY WHEN WE WERE THERE.

IF ONE DROVE NORTH PAST THE CAR GARAGE ON KIBBY, ONE WOULD GO PAST THE CREEK AND SEE THE PEACH ORCHARD NEXT TO IT.  ACROSS FROM THE ORCHARD WAS BEAR CREEK CAMP THAT HOUSED FARM WORKERS.  IF ONE WENT EAST ON BEAR CREEK ROAD YOU WOULD BE HEADING TOWARDS PLANADA, AND HORNITOS.  BEYOND THAT WOULD BE THE WEST SIDE OF THE SIERRA NEVADAS.   ONE WOULD FIRST ARRIVE AT BEAR VALLEY WHERE JOHN C. FREMONT HAD HIS HOME AND TWO MINES, THE 49 TRAIL AND YOSEMITE. ONE WOULD PASS TURKEY FARMS ON THE WAY THERE AS WELL AS CATHEYS VALLEY.

I RECALL US BEING VERY SHORT ON FUNDS ONE NOVEMBER AND WE KNEW THAT A TURKEY DINNER WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION.  THEN, ABOUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE THANKSGIVING, MY LITTLE BROTHERS AND SOME NEIGHBOR BOYS WERE PLAYING ON THE CORNER OF BEAR CREEK ROAD WHEN I HEARD A TRUCK TURN THE CORNER IN A SPEEDING MANNER AND A THUD.  THE TRUCK KEPT GOING BUT SEVERAL CRATES OF TURKEYS FELL OFF ONTO THE STREET.  THE BOYS RAN TO RETRIEVE THE CRATES AND PULLED THEM TO OUR CABIN.  WE KEPT THREE TURKEYS AND THE OTHER BOYS TOOK THEIRS HOME.  WE ALL HAD A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING THAT YEAR (1951).
